Op-Ed: EXPOSE: Belgium accepted Islamization for electoral reasons
Why they never demanded conditions for citizenship and why they tried so hard to let them come over to Brussels.
Published: Tuesday, March 29, 2016 11:38 AM
by Giulio Meotti, Italian journalist with Il Foglio, writes a twice-weekly…
The conversation opens with a proverb: “In the land of the blind the one-eyed is a king, but not in Belgium, where those who have tried to raise the alarm have been left alone.” These are the words of Alain Destexhe, a prominent figure among the liberals in Brussels, former secretary of Médecins Sans Frontières and president of the International Crisis Group.
He is also author of “Lettre aux progressistes qui flirtent avec l’islam réac” (a letter to the progressives who flirt with reactionary Islam – Editions du Cerisier), a letter-pamphlet that Destexhe dedicated to Philippe Moureaux, the man considered responsible for the transformation of a large suburb of Brussels into the European hub of Islamic holy war.
Two days ago, the Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel, said that Moureaux bears a “huge responsibility.”
“For twenty years, he reigned in a sort of conspiracy of silence” continues Destexhe as he talks to us. “At the heart of this system was the powerful Philippe Moureaux, mayor of Molenbeek, media darling, who has had a real moral and political domination over Brussels’ policy. He has created a climate of intellectual terror against the few who dared to stand up. Philippe Moureaux had realized that the future of socialism would depend on the immigrants who would become, symbolically, the new proletariat”.
But who is Moureaux? Professor of Philosophy at the University of Liege, Senator, Director of the Institut Emile Vandervelde (the think tank of the Socialist Party), deputy prime minister in the Martens government, but since 1983 city councilor and then, more importantly, mayor of Molenbeek for twenty years (1992- 2012). Son of minister Charles Moureaux, Philippe has long been the darling of the anti-racist left. The “loi Moureaux”, the Moureaux law, is in fact the rule that in 1981 criminalized acts inspired by xenophobia.
Nicknamed “Moustache” for his mustache, married to a Muslim Tunisian woman, Philippe Moureaux, even before becoming mayor of Molenbeek, had always boasted of defending the rights of immigrants. He included, for the first time in the history of Belgium, Muslim representatives in municipal and regional lists. This scion of the Belgian policy has been the mayor of Molenbeek for so long that the strategic suburb has come to be embodied in Isis’ plans.
His pro-Arab sympathies date back to the war in Algeria, when Moureaux defended the representatives of the Algerian National Liberation Front, also secretly hiding them in the heights of Lustin, in the Namur region.
Merry Hermanus, activist of the Socialist Party in Brussels for decades, also has accused Moureaux: “Without the immigrant populations, the Socialist Party would have been reduced to eight percent of the electorate in Brussels. We have become prisoners.” A few days ago, Moureux published his book, “The Truth About Molenbeek”. He wrote it after the massacres of November 13, in Paris, when the political class began to question his leadership of the Brussels ghetto. In the volume, Moureaux refers to “my Muslim brothers,” writes that one of the engines of jihadism is our “Islamophobia” and punishes “a society that treats immigrants like the Jews before the war”.
“Multiculturalism has failed because we have allowed them to exclude themselves without integrating communities, causing a fragmentation of society,” tells me Alain Destexhe, former Secretary General of Doctors Without Borders. “We’re talking about Belgian citizens who reject the values of our country. Salah Abdeslam is a typical example of a guy who could lead a comfortable life. He had a decent salary and a guaranteed job for life “.
Moureaux used immigrants to stay in power. Today half of the officers in local councils and in Parliament of the Socialist Party are of foreign origin.
Why did you write the Lettre aux progressistes qui flirtent avec l’islam réac? To denounce the left that you could not criticize, while we were becoming the first country in Europe in number of jihadists and Brussels the weakest link in the fight against this reactionary Islam.
It was an electoral strategy: Moureaux used immigrants to stay in power. Today half of the officers in local councils and in Parliament of the Socialist Party are of foreign origin.
did they never demand conditions to give citizenship to immigrants? “It was a political electoral pact. Legal immigration (and illegal) was encouraged. Family reunification was facilitated. There was the granting of voting rights to foreigners, the fight against racism became the new paradigm of political discourse. And more: frequent visits to mosques, subsidies to Muslim associations, the provision of services to the Koranic schools, participation in the festival Eid El Kebir, anti-Israeli marches”.
When he was mayor, Moureaux also urged people to avoid driving during Ramadan, so as not to offend Muslims.
“Most politicians chose not to listen to sermons that became increasingly radical and in this climate radical organizations such as the Belgian Islamic Centre and others have prospered freely. Molenbeek has thus become the fastest growing area of the Brussels region of Belgium. The population of the district increased by 12 percent in 5 years and 30 percent in 15 years. The Islamization is taking place before our eyes. Already 30 percent of Brussels is Islamic”.
And there’s not only Molenbeek: “There are Anderlecht, Brussels City, Schaerbeek, Saint-Josse and Forest. When I was Secretary of Doctors Without Borders, in the ’90s, I often worked in Molenbeek. The population was already largely of immigrant origin, but nobody was trying to assert its own Islamic identity, like today. Women were not wearing the veil, no one asked halal food in schools, few went to the mosque. For this reason, if I look at Belgium today, I am very pessimistic. Perhaps it is too late”.

Endless statism or the end of statism?
We all have the the moral and intellectual right to decide who’s speech is “acceptable.” We have a natural, God-given right to discriminate and to judge. In fact, these are natural, individual responsibilities. However, we do not have the right to use violence to inhibit another individual from exercising these same rights.
Reject those who are trying to blind you with guilt, to stop you from thinking through issues. They are supremely good at it! They want to close your mind with political correctness, with tolerance and apathy. They want to limit your ability to discern right from wrong by persuading you that one’s man’s principles, words and actions are equal to another man’s principles, words and actions. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Will we have endless statism? Or, will we reform and limit American government to protect individual liberty and reform American education to teach individual responsibility, including the responsibility and freedom to judge and discriminate against intolerable cultures, people and behaviors? Isn’t that the meaning of civil rights?

The end of Europe. Is the U.S. next?

Europe is being destroyed by Islam, rapidly now. Europe persisted in their poorly conceived ideals for too long. These are the same ideals espoused and acted on in America today by so-called progressives and Democrats, academia, and perhaps a majority of the Millennial generation who were taught by those “progressive” educators in America – multiculturalism, open borders, moral relativism, and collectivism. These are the ideals that lifetime educator, self-professed liberal, philosopher Allan Bloom said were the cause of “The Closing of the American Mind” and “how higher education has failed democracy and impoverished the souls of today’s students.”
The question is whether Americans will ignore the lesson of Europe and allow America to be destroyed by Islam.
“Belgium is not only one of the countries of Europe’s core, as is France, but it is also in some sense the capital of Europe. Brussels is the headquarters of the European Union’s secretariat. It is also near the headquarters of NATO. By striking Brussels, IS was striking at Europe’s core. IS has come to see Europe as an enemy, not only because it sees it as Christian, but also because it sees it as hostile.”
“In addition to striking at Europe’s headquarters, this attack poses an existential threat to the union. Between the Paris attacks and the migration crisis, Europe’s open border zone suffered a near mortal wound. Borders were “temporarily” suspended, and some have still not been reopened. Can the union survive continued attacks?”
“Salah Abdeslam, the mastermind behind the Paris attacks, hid in Brussels for four months. The police couldn’t find him, and they knew what he looked like. So how can they find new radicalized Muslims? As [George] Friedman points out, it’s very hard for Western police to sort the minority of murderous Muslims from the moderates. And so, “the world can either accept periodic attacks, or see the entire Muslim community as a potential threat until proven otherwise. These are terrible choices, but history is filled with them.”
“It is difficult to imagine another outcome save for another round of ghettoization and deportation,” he continued. “This is repulsive to the European sensibility now, but certainly not alien to European history. Unable to distinguish radical Muslims from other Muslims, Europe will increasingly and unintentionally move in this direction.”
“Think of what a change this would mean: a change away from the modern, pluralistic, multicultural Europe that we see today. The rise of the far right and the political turmoil shows that Europe is already moving in this direction. Some European leaders are talking about accepting only Christian migrants. It is getting much easier to imagine states beginning to view all their Muslim citizens with suspicion.”
“This is where these terrorist attacks are pushing Europe. It’s helping to create a unified and more integrated Europe. A Europe that moves away from the evils of multiculturalism toward a darker future where the state discriminates among its citizens. A Europe with a Christian identity—where Muslims are not welcome. A Europe that is fighting Islam abroad.”

Never let schooling interfere with education
President Obama recently appointed a second Common Core ‘true believer’ to head the U.S. Department of Education. You can always depend on a doctrinaire ideologue like Obama to appoint more ideologues to brainwash you and your kids, whether the appointment is for the Supreme Court or any other agency.
“I never let schooling interfere with my education,” said Mark Twain.
Every parent with children in school or college needs to read this.
What if everyone of us stood up for ALL truth in this manner? We’d live in a completely different world, wouldn’t we? Who, then, owns where we are today? Those unwilling to challenge untruths and demand truth.
Great story.
Hat tip to David Chaney and Garrett Spear.

The CO2 warmists are wrong and frozen
In the past, earth’s temperature has been statistically flat for more than 30 million years, and during that geological period the earth was covered with jungle. Life in the skies, on the land and in the seas was very abundant. You know the period as the Jurassic period from the movies when dinosaurs roamed. Prior to the Jurassic was a period of 75 million years when CO2 concentration was just a bit lower than today’s CO2 level of 400 ppm. During that long period of 75 million years, the earth’s temperature was colder than today’s by about 5 degrees C. Again, this was a very long, cold period when the CO2 was just a bit lower than it is today.
Then, after that ice age, for reasons we don’t understand yet, temperature started to increase extremely rapidly, rising to a temporary peak about 7 degrees warmer than today and then settling in about 5 degrees warmer than today, where it stayed statistically flat for more than 100 million years, including most of the verdant jungle Jurassic period.
Life was good, abundant and growing during the Jurassic. Following the very rapid increase in temperature, CO2 increased at a slower rate to a peak at almost 2000 ppm, almost 5 times today’s 400 ppm. Then CO2 levels declined following a Fibonacci cycle from about 2000 ppm to 1200 ppm in the middle of the jungle Jurassic period. Temperature was stable but CO2 was declining for millions of years. From there CO2 increased very rapidly to about 2400 parts per million, about 6 times higher than today’s 400 ppm. From that peak at about 2400 ppm, CO2 begins a slow, long decline lasting 150 million years to where we are today around 400 parts per million, only a bit above where it was for an ice age that lasted almost 75 million years.
Earth was covered by a sheet of ice for almost 75 million years. The continental shelf above sea level was several hundred feet higher than it is today and on top of that shelf was an ice sheet 2 miles thick in places. Only the tops of today’s highest mountains rose above the ice sheet. Life, as we know it, was not so good and not so abundant during that 75-million-year long ice age. From the perspective of our CO2 levels today, we are not far from the level of CO2 during that deep and long ice age.
For almost 100 million years leading up to our modern era, the CO2 concentration declined to just a bit below where it is today and meanwhile the temperature was statistically flat for 50 million years about 5 degrees warmer than today. The decline of CO2 started more than 100 million years before temperature briefly spiked about 2 degrees to about 24 degrees C. after it had been statistically flat at 22 degrees C for 75 million years. From that spike, temperature began a rapid decline to where we are today. The divergence of these two trends, a trendless flat temperature line and a declining CO2 concentration line, for duration of period of so many millions of years, is sufficient evidence to fail the AGW hypothesis.
During that long period of declining CO2 level, life was less abundant than it had been in the prior jungle Jurassic period. CO2 did rise following a more rapid temperature increase to the Jurassic temperatures. But the CO2 trend was following the temperature trend. During the Jurassic, CO2 began a slow, long decline but temperature did not, temperature remained stable for millions of year, then spiked down and back up to Jurassic temperature for another flat 50 million years. Then, after being stable for 50 million years, temperatures rapidly declined to where we are today while at the same time and for 100 million years before that abrupt temperature decline CO2 was already slowly declining to about where are today. The evidence is very poor that CO2 causes warming of the climate. On the other hand, there is a strong correlation between trends of declining CO2 and declining temperature.
Correlation does to prove cause, but if there is a causal link, then there must be a correlation.
We are walking on thin ice at today’s level of 400 ppm carbon. Currently, the CO2 level is increasing steadily toward a more normal and healthy range where life is more abundant. But political leaders at world and national levels have been working for decades to persuade us all – with the expense of more than $100 billion dollars they have collected or intend to collect from us by taxation – that CO2 levels are important for the climate. But, they also attempt to persuade us that we need to reverse the current rising CO2 trend toward one which is closely correlated with multiple, long ice ages.
If hell is frozen, the road to hell is paved with the intentions of climate politicians and their cronies.
If I have not explained this to your satisfaction, there are several thousands of scientists who can address your specific area of concern. The Attorney General of the United States and her equivalent in other nations and United Nations, and others, want to hunt down and punish these skeptical scientists and any corporations who do not follow the global warming agenda of politicians.
All you have to do is vote against anyone who supports anthropogenic global warming. Also stop giving money to those green candidates and the long list of their environmental crony organizations.

Fire the climate repair men
Imagine: Your car speedometer says you are going 60 miles per hour. You drive on the freeway for an hour at about 60 miles per hour according to the speedometer. But, after driving for that hour, you have not yet reached a town which is only 30 miles away. Do you fix the speedometer? Or do you change distances on the map? Do you claim that the town has moved? If climate alarmists had a climate model that worked, we would all know about that. It would be all over the news. And if that model revealed a definitive causal link between CO2 and temperature that produced dangerous warming, then all of those politicians, bureaucrats and so-called climate experts living on government money would not be flying to climate conferences in jets. These boondoggling so-called climate experts don’t have a climate model that works. Their speedometer does not work and they have not figured out the problem. They have dozens of models that cannot reproduce a known temperature even when known values are entered into the variables in their models. The models do not validate against real world measured data. In fact, climate alarmists misuse the words “pause” and “hiatus” in describing the statistically flat temperatures of the last 18+ years. Those words imply that warming will continue. In fact, no one knows whether this planet will be warmer or cooler or remain about the same. It’s time for us to fire the speedometer repair men.

The nipple
It’s a big country. You and I may prefer to travel by horse. Another fella may prefer to travel by magnolev rapid transit and another fellow may prefer surfing gravity waves. So long as we and our property are free to move to a different state, it will all work out. How much simpler can it get? But, if you start to reward me for my activities in your state, then I may decide to give up to you some of my freedom. Which nipple did you want?
